In order to meet the demands set by the research an exceedingly advanced instrumentation facility has been aquired. In majority the instruments are available at the Department, but it also holds minority shares in research equipment located at collaborative laboratories at Åbo Akademi University. Additionally, the Department participates in the activities at two independent research units: the Physics Instruments Centre and the Chemistry Instruments Centre, which are joint facilities for Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku. The former hosts high resolution surface sensitive equipment, such as ESCA (XPS), SIMS and AES spectrometers. In the latter centre the high resolution NMR and mass spectrometers are located. Detailed information on the comprehensive research instrumentation available at the Department is found on the web. The instrumentation is specialized on the one hand to cover a six-seven decades of sizes, forms, habits and morphologies. On the other hand, it is able to provide accurate information of the interactions at surfaces of materials, powders and between molecules.
